Happy Holidays from Colorado

A Red-Tailed Hawk hunting for food near Larkspur, Colorado

I hope everyone is having a great holiday. I have been a little slow hitting the publish button lately as I have been spending some time with family and friends enjoying the holiday season. We received a dusting of snow on Christmas morning, which was a real treat. Nothing quite like a Colorado Christmas with a touch of fresh snow!

Recently, I have had more time to explore and photograph the areas around my home. This post includes some of my favorite images. I have to remind myself that, even though I travel to a lot of beautiful places around the world, it is good to get out and really appreciate the beauty outside my front door.

A locomotive pushes through Palmer Lake, Colorado

All of the images here were made within a 30 minute driving radius of our home in Monument, Colorado. We are very blessed to live in such a beautiful place. After 16 years of living in Colorado Springs, we now live just outside of town on the rolling mountain prairie. With views of Pikes Peak to the west and ranch land to the north and east, it is our little slice of heaven.

Bison, longhorns, llamas, alpacas, cows and horses can all be found within a stone’s throw from our home. The longer we live in the country, the more we feel at home. It would be very difficult to give up the laid back lifestyle that accompanies Colorado’s mountain prairie. The winters are a little more harsh and the temps are a bit colder but, as with anything else, you acclimate. Once I got used to the change, I could not imagine living any other way.

I want to extend a big thank you to all that participated on the ADNW blog and in the painting challenges in 2012. I look forward to seeing more paintings in 2013. I hope 2012 was everything you wanted it to be and I wish you and yours a happy and prosperous 2013!
