Pencil Sketch: Paris Waitress

| September 28, 2011

I just had to give this one a go. It has been a while since I have done a pencil sketch. I think I will try another when I have time and just focus on her face. This drawing is about 10 inches high and I found it difficult to work the right amount of detail into the the piece.  Thanks to those that are submitting work for this month’s challenge. It is always a joy to see your work!

Such a beautiful drawing, Lee. I was hoping to find time to paint your beautiful challenge photo, and now the month is ending…

Nice job on this drawing Lee!
I enjoyed this photo so much I may have to give it another try.

Fabulously done, Lee! You never cease to amaze me with your talents. I see something super dreamy about this girl. It is as if she sees a much bigger world out there and intends to make short shrift of it! Wanted to do this challenge also but am so busy of late, it seems! Please note the new blog as I’ve decided to put the old one to death.

  4. I can see why you wanted to try this in graphite. It’s such a classic image, it begs to be sketched. I like how effectively you used your lights and darks to give a convincing sense of illumination. When the highlights on a sketch look whiter than the paper, I know the artist has done something very right.

Beautiful drawing! I think the dark background really does the job of highlighting the whole thing. I find the small details endearing like the opened mouth, the loose apron with the back loop, the rag in the waitress’s hand, …all very nice!
