Chasing the light in Greenland, Colorado

Greenland, Colorado - Morning Light February, 12 2011

I was laying in bed this morning thinking I really should get up and take a few photographs as the sun ushered in the day. I had been admiring the effect of first light on the blanketed landscape all week and wanted to capture it. Right, leave the swaddling warmth of my bed to go and and freeze. Well, I mustered up the will power and energy, grabbed my camera, and started chasing the light.

This spot is about 10 minutes from my house in a town called Greenland, Colorado. There are ranches all around and this old house caught my eye. After wading through knee deep snow banks on the side of the road, I found a nice point of view with foreground and background interest to support my subject. Below is a black and white conversion for fun.

I love how the sky blends into the snowy landscape with the intermixed blues and yellows. Fortunately the sun was just high enough above the horizon to light the side of the house, which accentuates the focal point of the shot.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend everyone!

Love the light. I’ve never been there! I should put it on my get out there and paint! list.
