Bubba Gump at Santa Monica Pier

Gotta paint today but I wanted to get another shot up from my recent trip to Southern California. At night from my hotel room the famous Santa Monica Pier looks like Pleasure Island. Being the Pinocchio that I am, I decided to wander over with the camera to shoot its temptations. This Bubba Gump store was hard to resist with the deck boards all lit up by neon and the corrugated steel siding glowing on the store. Folks don’t know what to do when photographers set up for a shot like this. I was shooting really to low to get the perspective effect of the deck boards leading to the entrance of the store. Most folks try to be nice and wait when I would really prefer that they ignore me and proceed about their business as if I was not there. With the long-ish shots I had to take to get the light effect and dynamic exposure, anyone walking in the frame would have blurred and detracted from the scene.

This is a most fabulous shot, Lee! Love the way those boards lead you right to the front door.

  2. Wow man your photographs are absolutely incredible. You are very thorough in everything you do! I love the sharpness and vivid colors that pervade your photography.

Haven’t made up my mind yet about the monthly painting challenge. It’s one of my favorites of your photographs, though I’m not sure about painting it. We’ll see…:)

I see the “subscribe to comments” module came and went. Found it cluttering I guess?

Thanks Martyn and Sherry. I have to say that adding photography to the creative mix makes traveling that much more fun!
