May Challenge Composition Options

May challenge sub-composition #1

In case you are feeling a bit overwhelmed by the complexity of the May challenge photo, I wanted to provide a few sub-compositions for you to consider as well. I think each of these cropped versions of the photo would make nice paintings and not take a millenium to complete.

If you are looking for some still life inspiration, take a look at a new artist I am following. His name is Daniel Keys and I must say that there is a hint of Richard Schmid in his work. I recognized it before I discovered that he has been painting with him recently! You can see Daniel’s work here.

May challenge sub-composition #2

I am tempted to paint the entire scene but I know it will take some time. Don’t feel any pressure to do so. Just set you sights on something within the scene that you want to accomplish, learn from it, and most of all have fun!

Great crops here, Lee. Still hard to choose! LOL I hope I can find some time to do this challenge. I love the composition(s)!

Thanks Sherry. I hope you have time to go for it. I am going to do a small 6×6 to start and then decide if I will jump in with both feet!

Danial Keys paintings make me feel nauseous. All that talent at 23? I wish I had started painting younger.

Dang Randy. Sorry the post made you barfacious! I will have to remember that when exposing you to extraordinary talent. Joking aside, he is very good and it will be interesting to see his artistic journey unfold.
