John Taft Painting Spotted in the Wild

Taft spotted in the wild on Underpaintings Blog

Call me an art stalker. I was happily reading Matthew Innis’ Underpaintings Blog when I saw his recent story about visiting the American Masters Show and Sale at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. I knew my friend and artist John Taft was hanging there again this year so I combed through the pictures to see if I could find his piece. In the very last photo, there it was. John was in good company at the show rubbing elbows with none other than Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik. I wish I could have been there to meet Mr. Schmid and thank him for the Christmas card.

I own two of John’s pieces and am glad to see things are going well for him. His is intensely committed to his work and have a feeling that  he will continue to gain prominence as a painter. Rumor has it that he is preparing for a big one-man show this summer. I hope that is the case and I look forward to seeing him and more of his work!

Lee, I got to see a couple miniature paintings by John at the Southwest Gallery in Dallas. Here is a link. They don’t look like his typical work. At least not what I have seen.
    Enjoy…

Thanks Randy. You are right. A little out of the norm. I have also seen some figures by him as well. It is probably good for him to explore alternative subjects and styles.

How cool! I need to find more of these types of art events. I’m lucky to find art festivals through the summer. I think I’d much more enjoy gallery shows.

Thought you were kidding about the Christmas card… Wow that’s a keeper!

I did meet Richard. I was present at the filming of his old sailor DVD. He was so genuine and eager to share his secrets. Its a demonstration I’ll never forget! Love the Landscapes book. It was my Christmas present along with a signed print of his. Sure wish I could afford one of his paintings… He’s fabulous.

  5. Seems odd that Nancy isn’t ready to change her name yet… they’ve been married a little over 12 years. Some people.

    Is Richard in that picture?

John Taft definitely has a strong sense of color.

Hi Sherry. Gallery shows are fun and quite inspirational!

Neat story Susan. Did you get some airtime on the DVD. I have one of Richard’s DVDs but not that one. I too would like to own a Schmid. The last one I saw sell was $40,250 at the Scottsdale Art Auction!

Martyn, I have a feeling that Nancy’s name is here to stay. Richard is not in the pic but one of the other pics on the Underpaintings Blog had him featured.

  7. Very Cool. I’m going to run over to the underpainting blog because I Love underpainting!!

Thanks for stopping by Mary. Hope you like Underpaintings. It seems to be quite a popular blog.
