The Elvis Chapel at Apache Junction, Arizona

The Elvis Presley Chapel is a movie memorabilia museum in Apache Junction, Arizona showing the movies that were filmed at Apacheland. The Chapel survived two fires that all but destroyed Apacheland Movie Ranch. Many western motion pictures and television shows were filmed at the Ranch over a 45 year period, including “Charro,” which starred Elvis Presley. Among some of the better known motion pictures filmed at Apacheland were: The Ballad of Cable Hogue, Arizona Raiders ,The Haunted, The Gambler II and Blind Justice. Television series filmed here included Have Gun Will Travel, and Wanted Dead or Alive.

There is something odd and funky about this that I like. Using my new 10-22mm Canon wide angle lens, I liked how the distortion and lines of the chapel created an illusion of gravitational pull toward the heavens. Although there were absolutely no clouds to work with, I thought the shimmering horizon looked kind of groovy too. Below is a bonus picture of the Apacheland barn, which was another of the original buildings that survived the fires.

Both photos are gorgeous, Lee. I also like the things you noted in the chapel photo. And that sky is just amazing!
