DSFDF Portrait Challenge Drawing

It has been a while since I have participated in a “Different Strokes for Different Folks” challenge but this one looked like fun! At the end of the year, Karin Jurick asks participants to photograph themselves and email her the photo. She then randomly takes the photo of another participant and sends it to you to paint or draw. Well, the nice looking lady you see above was the one I received! Now I just have to wait to see my portrait done by someone else. Per the deadline, it should be posted to the DSFDF site before the end of the year.
Below is the original photo that I used to create the portrait. It was fun to work out the relative values and try to capture her likeness. I used the same pencils that I used on the portrait of Zoe a few weeks back. It seemed like human face was more difficult because there are more features to try and get right. In all I am happy with the drawing for a night’s work. I hope my subject stops by at some point because I would like to send her an ADNW apron. Graphite drawings are fun and I think there will be more of these in my future!

Hi Amanda. Thanks a ton for stopping by. It is so much fun seeing all the work on DSFDF and getting know the work of others. I’ve tagged your blog and I look forward to seeing your future work!
Hello Ann. The eyes are the toughest! After completing the drawing, I noticed a few things that I could do differently next time. Double checking alignments and distances would help drive the likeness further. As always I appreciate your comments!
Dominique. Long time! Thanks for your encouragement. Pencil is fun and I may get some colors sometime to give that a go.
Hi Claire. Always enjoy seeing new faces at ADNW. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to come over to comment. I will be visiting your blog soon!
Tracie Brown…hey, that is my sister’s name but with a “Y”! I agree with you about the feel of pencil. I am always taken by it for some reason. I actually find it more relaxing than painting sometimes and that is why I like to throw in a drawing or two from time to time. Take care!
Hi Lee! You have done a great job on this graphite portrait. I love her big smile. Checking your other work, I fell in love with Zoe. What a sweet portrait! I love it.
Lee, your drawing is exquisite. You nailed the likeness. The artist you drew will be thrilled with your interpretation.
I also liked your Aspevig study. I’d have to say you nailed that one as well. Wonderful work.
Thanks Carol. Loved yours as well. Just read up on our portrait initiative and I am considering! Thanks for the comment and I hope you have a great holiday!
